Firefight takes place shortly after the end of Steelheart, our hero, David, is struggling with the realisation that his friend and mentor, the man known as the Prof, possesses super powers much like the Epics - the enemies he is sworn to destroy.
We catch up with the Reckoners as they travel to Babilar (once New York), a city almost entirely covered in water. Here, David and his rag-tag group of friends must traverse this minefield of a setting to try and track down and destroy the super villain Firefight, along with other Epics.
However, in Babilar, nothing is as it seems.
Flooded by the Epic Regalia, the inhabitants of Babilar rely on Dawnlight, another mysterious Epic that many people revere as a god. Discovering Dawnlight's weakness and origin will be key in David's survival.
Firefight is a much different novel than Steelheart. In it, David must come to terms with the fact that not all Epics are alike and that each one has his or her own struggle that must be taken into account if he and his Reckoner friends are going to live to see another day.
There's a lot more self-evaluation in this novel, and it's not a bad thing. The action and character development are still strong. It's a great concept and I can't wait to read the third in this series.

I keep wanting to get into this series because everyone keeps talking about it, but I feel like I'm waiting for the whole series to come out so I can binge-read. It feels like that kind of a book.
