Ooh, I love the idea of forcing yourself to really FIND a book - not ordering it from somewhere, but LOOKING - hands and eyes - in an actual brick/mortar bookstore. I like the potential serendipity of the experience - some of the best books I've found at the library are "whatever, just grab it" selections while walking toward the self-check machines.
Also love that you drew the whole thing!
Justin: Awesome post! More, please...
Thanks! I'm hoping this series takes me in all kinds of directions.
Great post Justin.

on a road trip to the pacific northwest in the pre-internet days i made a pitstop in portland, orgegon. by chance i parked around the corner from powell's books -- i'd never heard of it. i walked in and found book mecca! in three hours i found book after book that had been eluding me for decades.
i continued my trip north to seattle, but cut it short by two days in order to return to portland and devote a day (and a chunk of my travel budget) to the bookstore. that sense of serendipity is what will keep bricks-and-mortar new and used bookstores around forever.
I love the contemplation of good ways to discover a book. Already looking forward to the next post!
