Now, an experienced middle school teacher myself, I have had trouble finding a steady stream of books for my reluctant readers who have failed to be interested in a book since Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet" in fifth grade. I've looked into westerns, but Vermont is not the best source of used westerns or people to give advice about titles.

I am looking for page turning westerns. Not classics, per say, but adventures.

And I want a list. A grand list of everything people can think of, so that students will go from book to book to book until they are reading junkies for life.

Please help. This is a great site, and the western sites and lists I've seen are full of "classic" westerns that are more thoughtful than adventurous.Sitwithabookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02796028964349531840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893796119628724760.post-80590556047344671572010-12-21T02:51:52.437-08:002010-12-21T02:51:52.437-08:00God, those are both great books -- I need to re-re...God, those are both great books -- I need to re-read each.

Another great underappreciated western is "California Bloodstock," by Terry McDonell. It's hopelessly out of print, but an amazing slice of magical realist writing from the far west (in this case, the mad founding of California).MarkLWilliamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16349802470814797022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893796119628724760.post-6191880620236287742010-12-16T14:06:00.601-08:002010-12-16T14:06:00.601-08:00TRUE GRIT looks amazing doesn't it? (And I have a dog named "Hondo" so that will tell you how much I love westerns.)Colleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18380722344521975869noreply@blogger.com
